How we fund
The Sargood Bequest funds in different ways, from grants that help groups take practical next steps, to larger partnerships that strengthen long-term impact, and opportunities for family members to carry forward a tradition of giving.
Through our funding, we aim to:

Enable positive social change by building community capability and long-term sustainability
Honour the Sargood legacy and inspire the next generation of philanthropy through family-led giving
Responsive Impact
Responsive grants are the main way community groups can apply for funding, with our grants round opening annually on the 1st of September. Most of the grants made are under $5,000 and aim to make a practical difference – whether that’s upgrading equipment, improving technology, strengthening communications, building capacity or responding to an opportunity or challenge. We aim to have a simple and focused application process, with no complex reporting requirements. Strategic Impact
Our Strategic Impact grants are larger, multi-year commitments to support organisations and projects that align with our values, vision and areas of interest, and have the potential for lasting impact. Through these grants, we support groups to implement innovative solutions, build sustainable models, strengthen governance and resilience and create change that benefits whole communities. These grants are made proactively by our Trustees, meaning Trustees actively seek out organisations with ideas and iniatives that meet our Strategic Impact criteria, rather than having an open application process.
Foundational Impact
As a family trust, we are passionate about continuing the Sargood legacy by giving opportunities for Sargood family members to experience the joy and connection that comes from active participation in their community and meaningful giving. Our Foundational Impact initiative gives Sargood family members the opportunity to develop their understanding of philanthropy, grounded in service, humility and connection, by supporting causes and groups they are personally involved with.
